At the 9th All Africa Music Awards (Afrima), which took place in Lagos on Sunday night, Nigerian musicians won a number of awards.
For his most recent album, No Sign of Weakness, international singer Burna Boy won the coveted Album of the Year award.
Additionally, he split the Best African Collaboration prize with his rapidly emerging countryman Shallipopi, who earned the prestigious Song of the Year award for his popular song Laho, which caused a stir on social media.

Rema, who won three awards—Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, and Best African Artiste in R&B and Soul—topped the evening’s total.
Other significant Nigerian victories included veteran rapper Phyno, who was voted Best African Artiste in African Hip-Hop, and Yemi Alade, who won Best Soundtrack in a Movie, Series, or Documentary for her song You Are from the animated series Iyanu.
Additionally, the awards honored up-and-coming talent. Chella won the title of African Fans’ Favorite, and Qing Madi was named Most Promising Artiste of the Year.
The event honored artists from all throughout Africa, however Nigerian performers predominated.
Wendy Shay of Ghana won Best Female Artist in West Africa, Nontokozo Mkhize of South Africa won Best Female Artist in Southern Africa, and Juma Jux of Tanzania received Best Male Artist in Eastern Africa.
