For the sixth consecutive Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt has advanced to the semifinals; Senegal is the team preventing them from reaching the championship game.

Egypt advanced to the semi-finals with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Africa Cup of Nations winners Ivory Coast thanks to a goal from Mohamed Salah.

The Pharaohs set up a matchup with Senegal in the final four after Ivory Coast’s late-second-half comeback attempt was narrowly defeated.

After gaining possession in midfield, Egypt seized the lead four minutes in. Emam Ashour threaded the ball through to Omar Marmoush, who held his position before blasting a low shot past Yahia Fofana.

In the 32nd minute, Rami Rabia headed Salah’s right-sided corner back across goal and into the near post to double their lead.

Ibrahim Sangare’s header was blocked by Mohamed El Shenawy, but Doue flicked the rebound over the line as the holders rallied once again. However, Ivory Coast was unable to produce an equalizer to force extra time.
