Nigeria defeated Algeria 2-0 to secure their spot in the Africa Cup of Nations semifinals thanks to goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams.
After putting on a strong performance in their last-eight match in Marrakech on Saturday, the Super Eagles will play hosts Morocco on Wednesday for a spot in the final.
Despite dominating the first half, Nigeria was unable to lead going into halftime. Adams had their greatest opportunity of the first half, but with only Luca Zidane in the Algerian goal to beat, he side-footed high and wide.
Ademola Lookman worked Zidane, and Rayan Ait-Nouri of Manchester City also produced a fantastic last-ditch tackle to deny Osimhen.
But Algeria’s resistance was finally broken only 84 seconds into the second half as Bruno Onyemaechi hung up a cross to the far post, where Osimhen converted with a downward header.
Osimhen was denied a second goal shortly afterwards, but he turned creator for Adams in the 57th minute, the Sevilla man calmly collecting his strike partner’s lay-off, rounding Zidane, then tapping into the unguarded net.
Eric Chelle’s team had chances to add further gloss to their lead, but they ultimately had to settle for a 2-0 success as Adams somehow headed against the post when presented with an open goal.
